Since January 8, 2026, France has suspended the import and marketing of certain foods from non-EU countries if residues of prohibited pesticides are quantifiable.
The active substances concerned are carbendazim, benomyl, thiophanate-methyl, glufosinate and mancozeb.
Affected commodities include, among others, citrus fruits, pome fruits, grapes, cereals and potatoes.
The background of the measure according to the decree:
- Toxicological assessments by EFSA
- Withdrawal of maximum residue levels
- Proven health risks from certain substances
For importers, traders, and processors, this entails increased due diligence, transparent supply chain evaluation, and providing analytical evidence of the absence of quantifiable residues.
Importers and distributors have a transitional period until February 8, 2026.
